The early 1980's, Phil's family moves from an inner city slum to build a bright new life in Stevenage, a 'new town' in Southern England.
But, a decade later, the dream's crumbled and Phil finds himself in a bewildering world of unemployment, violence and with no hope for his future. His best friend Ted disappears and another, Steven, desperately tries to conform to his parents' expectations whilst Matt gets engaged.
Feeling alienated and dissatisfied, Phil gets involved with Steven's brother Robert, a dangerously incompetent villain who's forever planning his next 'big job'. Phil feels trapped in this dark world but the arrival of his attractive cousin Shona (Emer McCourt) brings light and acts as the catalyst for Phil to expand his horizons and plan his escape...
